David (Gregory Peck) isn’t a cost accountant, he’s a brilliant physical chemist. He used the phrase “cost accountant” as a metaphor for his job when he learned that the “peaceful” Garrison Foundation for which he works is actually a secret division of defense contractor Unidyne, and that his discovery of a method to neutralize radiation will be used to make “clean” atomic weapons. His amnesia was induced when he set fire to the only copy of his formula, and Charles Calvin (Walter Abel) fell out of the window to his death while trying to grab it.
