Wag the Dog

Conread Brean (Robert De Niro), Winifred Ames (Anne Heche), Sgt. William Schumann (Woody Harrelson), and Stanley Motss (Dustin Hoffman) survive the plane crash without a scratch. Schumann's unwelcome advances on a shopkeeper's daughter get him shot and killed. The trio quickly turn the returning war hero into a martyr, and meanwhile the President's sex scandal is forgotten long enough to get him re-elected. When all the credit is given to an inane campaign, Motss loses his cool and leaves the office to call the public forum and confess his part in the faked war. He doesn't even make it to the phone, as Brean quickly has him escorted to a limousine to be permanently silenced. Motss is later discovered to have died of a 'heart attack' in his bed.
