The Life of David Gale

David Gale (Kevin Spacey) has a fling with grad student Berlin (Rhona Mitra), which ends his marriage and career, and plunges him into alcoholism. He recovers, has pity sex with leukemia-stricken fellow activist Constance Hallaway (Laura Linney). Constance videotapes her own suicide, making it look like a murder, and frames Gale for the crime. Bitsey (Kate Winslet) steals the tape from Dusty (Matt Craven), but delivers it too late to save Gale from execution. Gale's lawyer, Braxton Belyeu (Leon Rippy) delivers an uncut version of the tape to Bitsey, who finally sees that Gale was present at Hallaway's suicide, and that the whole ordeal was the ultimate political statement against the death penalty.
