My Favorite Year
Drunken matinee idol Alan Swann (Peter O'Toole), terrified at the thought of performing in front of a live audience, refuses to appear on King Kaiser's (Joseph Bologna's) TV comedy show. But the show's junior writer, Benjy Stone (Mark Linn-Baker), gives Swann a stirring speech about heroes, and when thugs working for union boss Karl Rojeck (Cameron Mitchell) attack Kaiser on stage during the show, Swann literally swoops in and helps save the day. The event gives him the confidence he had lacked to visit his young daughter.
