Star Trek: Insurrection
The metaphasic radiation in the planet's rings keeps the Ba'ku eternally young. The Son'a and the Ba'ku are the same race. Ru'afo (F. Murray Abraham) and his band were exiled a century ago for trying to take over the colony. Ru'afo now plans to exact his revenge by setting off a chain reaction in the planet's rings. A collector will gather the metaphasic radiation released by the reaction, which will be used by the Son'a to rejuvenate their dying race. Admiral Dougherty (Anthony Zerbe) is in on the plot. After the holographic ship, which was supposed to surreptitiously transport the Ba'ku off of the planet, is discovered by Data (Brent Spiner), Ru'afo attempts to forcibly relocate the Ba'ku. Disobeying Dougherty's orders (the 'Insurrection'), Picard (Patrick Stewart), Worf (Michael Dorn), Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden), Troi (Marina Sirtis) and Data fly Picard's personal shuttle to the planet and lead the Ba'ku into hiding while Riker (Jonathan Frakes, who also directed) attempts to fly the Enterprise into communications range with Starfleet, while being pursued by two Son'a ships. When Ru'afo decides to set off the reaction with some of the Enterprise crew and the Ba'ku still on the planet, Dougherty refuses to go along because the reaction will render the planet uninhabitable. Ru'afo kills Dougherty using the Face Stretcher. Picard and Anij (Donna Murphy) are beamed aboard Ru'afo's ship, where Picard convinces Ru'afo right-hand man Gallatin (Gregg Henry) to help thwart the plan. Using a Son'a scout ship, Data disrupts the shields on Ru'afo's ship with a phaser attack so that Ru'afo and his bridge crew can be unknowingly transported to the holographic ship. Ru'afo believes he has set off the reaction, but when he discovers that he has been tricked, he transports himself to the collector to set off the reaction personally. Picard follows Ru'afo to the collector and using a destruct sequence provided by Gallatin, destroys the collector. Riker returns just in time after defeating the two Son'a ships to beam Picard aboard the Enterprise as the collector explodes, killing Ru'afo. Gallatin is reunited with his mother on the planet and it can be assumed that the two races reconcile.
