The Last Samurai

Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise) joins Katsumoto (Ken Watanabe) and the Samurai to battle the Japanese army. The Samurai lose, and one of the Japanese officers orders shooting to stop, so Katsumoto can do the honorable thing and take his own life with his own sword. After the battle, the Japanese Emperor (a former student of Katsumoto) is about to sign a treaty with the US. Algren comes in and presents the Emperor with Katsumoto's sword. The Emperor decides that even though Japan is being modernized, it shouldn't forget its origins, and turns down the treaty. Narration at the end says that no one knows what happened to Algren, though we are shown him walking into Taka's (Koyuki's) village in the Mountains.
