Mona Lisa Smile

Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts) successfully gets through the 1953-54 year of teaching at snooty Wellesley College but will not return because of conditions the board has put on her employment. Free-thinking, progressive Katherine clashes with the board of the prestigious all-girl institution that wants to turn out educated wives, not leaders. Graduating students Joan Brandwyn (Julia Stiles) does not accept her Yale Law School slot and opts to get married, and Betty Warren (Kirsten Dunst), whose new husband has an affair, plans to divorce him and live with Giselle Levy (Maggie Gyllenhaal) in a Greenwich Village apartment. Katherine leaves town after graduation (destination unknown) leaving behind handsome professor Bill Dunbar (Domenic West) who had turned out to be a jerk.
