Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) finally agrees to train Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank). She gets to fight for a title against the East German champion who plays dirty, and while Maggie isn't looking, sucker punches her so she lands on the stool in her corner, breaking her neck. She is paralyzed from the neck down, unable to breathe on her own. Frankie vows to be by her side till the end. She begs him to help end her life; he finally does and she dies peacefully.
