Svengali
(1931)

Trilby (Marian Marsh) is unable to escape the hypnotic spell of Svengali (John Barrymore) until the aging maestro suffers a fatal heart attack. As his breath drains away, Svengali prays for the one thing he could never have in life--Trilby's legitimate affection. Trilby calls out his name lovingly, and dies. Svengali expires with a smile on his face.
