Anne Elliot (Amanda Root) and her former fiance Captain Wentworth (Ciaran Hinds) meet again years after their broken engagement. Circumstances have changed drastically for them both; Anne’s father has fecklessly spent the family fortune and they are force to leave their home and Wentworth is now a rich and successful naval officer.

Still bitter at Anne’s desertion, Wentworth is actively searching for a bride when an almost fatal accident to the girl he is courting forces him to face his real feelings.

Despite many misunderstandings and family disapproval, Anne and Wentworth finally marry and she joins him on board his ship, finally happy as a captain’s wife.
