Woman in the Dunes

A surreal film that earned the first oscar nomination for directing by an Asian (Hiroshi Teshigahara).

An entomologist (Eiji Okada) who is gathering insects in a dune area misses the last bus, so he spends the night with a widow (Kyoko Kishida) who lives in a sandpit. The next day he learns that there is no escape and ultimately accepts his fate.
