Joan Crawford catches her husband cheating and lets him have it with an axe while her three year old daughter watches.  Twenty years later, Joan gets out of the asylum and goes home to her engaged daughter (Diane Baker).  A psychiatrist, a handy man and the father of Diane’s fiancee get “axed” and everything points to Joan.  We finally learn that it is really Diane doing it because she wanted her future in laws’ money and was going to let Joan take the blame.
